On the 50th anniversary of the Internet, NPR had an interview with a couple of the people that made it happen. They were asked if there was anything that surprised them about what it developed into…They said the cat videos. The sheer number of cat videos…
Varnes… that was one person… Tim Berners-Lee, in 2014, on the 25th birthday of the World Wide Web, which he actually invented. The web…. the "www’ in all those URL’s .. is the system of hyperlinks and web pages you use to view the content on the internet… including GoComics. The internet itself isn’t 50 yet. It’s (sort of) the infrastructure of connected telephone lines and computers that carries the web… starting with a defense network called Arpanet in 1969.Anyway… Tim Berners-Lee was asked what surprised him most about what has happened to the Web in the 25 years since his original proposal…and his one-word answer was “Kittens.”
Al Gore made sure the research that went into the internet was funded, he did not invent it……He just made it possible…He was the one who introduced the bills that funded the research….If money makes things happen, he made it happen…
NightG – Berners-Lee was CERN…. or at least, a scientist working at CERN, and dreamed up the web as a communication tool, so they could share information with universities, institutions and other scientists. It was as an employee, that he submitted the proposal for the web …then hosted the world’s first website, which explained how to use the web, on his own computer.A few years later CERN transferred the code to the public domain…and released future versions under an open license,
They’re now trying to restore the URL of that first website, as part of the history of the web..

Cat people will watch any kind of kitty video, and it’s not every day that you see a purple cat.

We have a Grumpy Cat, now a Sleepy Cat (although that would apply to all of them). What else, a Sneezy, Happy, etc.?
