Hey, Wiley! What’s happening with the cottage in the woods. What’s in there? Why is the door blocked from the outside? Don’t leave us hanging!! Inquiring minds need to know.

Such as why are there no WMDs for spam?

Talking about the spammers only encourages them as you acknowledge their existance. Flag them WITHOUT comment.

Reminds me of a timely joke: A priest, a soldier, and an engineer are sentenced to die for speaking out against the king. They are to face the guillotine! The priest is asked, “do you want to die facing up, or facing down?” Priest says “Up, of course, i want to see heaven, where i am going”. Problem is, the blade won’t fall. He’s innocent cry the spectators, and the priest is set free. The soldier, same question. I’m not afraid to die, i shall face the blade. Same thing, blade won’t fall and the crowd demands his release. The engineer is placed in the guillotine, face up like the others…..”Oh, I see the problem! Bring me my tools!”…… (I used this to illustrate to my wife how we technical people think.)

Okay, boyo. From Sir Walter Raleigh: “This is sharp medicine; but it is a sure cure for all diseases. What dost thou fear? Strike, man, strike.”

Would it really make a difference to the condemned? Would they get a duller blade? A pillow in the basket for their decapitated head?

packratjohn, thanks for the joke. I’m going to pass it around to my friends.

A dull blade doesn’t cut as cleanly. It is said that some of the people Henry VIII executed got dull blades and it took several attempts to off them. Not pleasant.

Back in the days before the Guillotine, most nations used an axe (or a sword) for some executions. If you paid extra, the executioner would sharpen the axe for you. Both Thomas More (ex-Chancellor of England) and John Fisher (Cardinal and Bishop of Rochester) were sentenced to be hanged, drawn and quartered (don’t ask), but both sentences were commuted to beheading. It was less painful, less gruesome, and considered more honorable.

Let’s see, they say that the head live on for a few seconds after. So when they hold it up for the crowd to see, wouldn’t there theoretically be time to make a goofy face just to haunt their dreams?
