A note about my “Montgomery” comment yesterday… I need to explain. Montgomery Ward was a 19th & early 20th Century Department Store. Together with Sears & Roebuck, Kresge’s and F W. Woolworth, they were forerunners of today’s Marts like Walmart, K-Mart and Target. Ah, my – the memories of those old 5 and 10 cent stores where we got all our childhood (and adult) supplies.

’twas a time, a golden time, when NEWS was in NEWSPAPERS, not this newfangled … radio thing, and people actually READ the ’papers, and were informed.

Now’days, y’ get these gigantic corporations, an’ the radio an’ th’ teevee is just part of their marketin’ deepartments. They tell y’ what they wan’ y’ to hear an’ know.

Old days, we thought f’ ourselves, an’ did as we thought best, na’ what these fool Trumps an’ Koch’s want !

@Kara: and once upon a time, the newspapers had actual NEWS, not just celebrity gossip and op-eds, with maybe one or 2 pages of stories that actually matter. These days you have to go looking for news, and then figure out if the source is liberal or conservative, then run it through the appropriate filter to find out what is REALLY going on.

I think reviewers mostly try to impress each other with their “knowledge and insight”.

I can get party line on any US news channel. Fox and the foreign press do better for actual news. And you can get enough polemics to do your own synthesis.

Actually, I’m old enough to Remember the Monkey Ward, Woolworths, etc. lunch counters and there were Not “Fast Food”..They didn’t start Cooking things like Burgers until After you ordered them and served them on REAL Plates, not cardboard & waxed paper..Most also featured items like Roast Beef, Fried Chicken, Pork Chops, Steaks and (Depending on Location) Fresh Seafood, all on the Same Menu..Sometimes the person who Served that food would even remember the Names of all his/her Customers..

@MLSIA@Kara KalelYes and CNN, MSNBC and HLN are factual all the time and have highly intelligent viewers. They are nothing but propaganda, deciet and poor entertainment channels. Not saying FOX is better just not any worse. You cannot get the true story from any of those organizations nor can you get it from the Big 3 major networks. But this is probably not the proper venue to get into this discussion. It is just a comic strip that is somewhat funny because of Lila and Boyd’s shallowness.
