I think the date stamp has a typo. It says 1966 instead of 1955.

This strip actually dates from 1666. I remember reading about it in Pepys’s diary. “A most droll and amusing interlude.”

The 3rd panel reads copyright 1955.

What is he painting up there on the roof?

Looks like he’s taring the chimney insert to make it impermeable to rain. A “patchwork” fix up. Sluggo’s roof leaks all the time.
