Two dogs, a rhinoceros, and a cat playing poker. Nice, but would’ve been more nice to pay homage to Cassius Marcellus Coolidge by having two more dogs.

Obviously they don’t play cards with the crowd I do. That’s a killing offense.

I always find when with friends of a certain age, there is more conversing going on then playing to win. Can be easy to forget such a minor detail!

They may not remember who dealt last but I bet they can tell you who didn’t ante up before the next hand.

Simple enough… starting ground rules, rotate deal to the left and place the deck on your left when you’re done dealing so the next guy knows when it’s his turn. Been playing like that all my life…

When we play poker, we have a dealer button that goes in front of the dealer. Other card games, though, sometimes we can’t remember who played last.

The thing you pass is called a “Buck” which gets us to the expressions “Pass the buck” and “The buck stops here”.. The “buck” was originally a knife with a buckhorn handle. Also see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Knives

We use a shoe string that is passed with the cards to keep track of whose deal it is.

Get one of those “Dealer” buttons that they use at the poker tables in a casino. Place it in front of the dealer, then pass it on for the next hand. (Gambler’s General Store in Las Vegas)
