Penny: Why?
June: Because we want our home to be neat and tidy!
Penny: Why?
June: Because mommy doesn't like clutter!
Penny: Why?
June: Why do you keep asking why?
Penny: Why not?
Sometimes you ask why to find out how committed you are to your line of thought. I went through that stage but didn’t get answers unless I asked my Dad. He gave me sound reasoning and science. Mom couldn’t get that far.

Sooner or later, the answer must be “because I’m your mother and I said so”. And if you get another “why” after that, it’s time-out for an hour.

When my daughter entered that age I gave very long, detailed scientific explanations for each “why”. She got over that stage very quickly.
