Speed Bump by Dave Coverly for June 29, 2010

Although that poem made it even to English classes in Germany (and the last line became some kind of proverb in my family), I don’t see the joke in the cartoon. Any help? Is it that some fella did not travel either road but stayed put?

Herr, I’m with you. It’s not Frost’s birthday or date of death so I’m stumped. Maybe it’s just a play on the poem.

I think it suppose to mean that woods is no longer a woods, been converted into condos.

I’m not sure what Coverly is trying to say either, but I’d guess he’s attempting irony by showing that both roads are now identical paved streets and the individuality implied by taking the lesser traveled also becomes ironic as the wood has been replaced by one of those ubiquitous housing developments.

I think Colt9033 has part of it - the woods have been converted to condos.

But notice where the sign is. It’s at the point where two roads diverge.

The cartoon is kind of a sad commentary. But one of my favorite poems from one of my favorite poets.

I think he is making fun of some of the “private community” names, like Woods Estate. I thought this was funny.
