JOE How do you say First Amendment? You use it to post your religious OPINIONS.. I bet God has big shoulders and can take a joke or two. If I think God is a three toed sloth, I have the right to say so. If that doesn’t fit your imagined Deity, remember your views are a minority.

I believe that if Walter had asked, Jesus would be more than happy to heal his back pain. This is no more strange than using mud to restore eyesight, or sticking fingers in a deaf man’s ears to restore his healing. Would it be any easier for Namaan to do something great, than to dip himself in the Jordan seven times to cure himself of his leprosy? People say that they’re Christian, but they take themselves so seriously, they forgot how to enjoy life at least once every day. How on earth (and in heaven) can you say you’re saved if you cannot find any joy in anything? Besides, it is a crying shame that you would choose to be offended about the whole thing. My goodness, it’s just a cartoon…if you don’t like it, don’t look at it.

How can one say that humanity is made in the image of the deity without acknowledging the possibility of a divine sense of humor as well? ‘Twould serve all those stern, humorless people right to get tossed into some dismal corner of an afterlife with the admonition that they should have laughed and enjoyed life more.

By the way, I have it on good authority that it took Mary years to break the boy Jesus of walking across the puddles every time it rained.

God created man in his own image. Therefore, God probably has a sense of humor.

Most of us can verify this by simply looking in the mirror…

I am a Christian. I choose to take this cartoon for what it is - a joke. I think God does have a sense of humor, but it’s not a cartoon I personally would have created. For my own set of values, it very nearly crosses a line of respect I have for the name of Jesus Christ. However, I am not Mr. Hilburn’s judge. That being said, I wonder what would have been the response if the cartoon had featured an icon from a religion other than Christianity? If you are going to lean on the concept of free speech, you must acknowledge that it works in all directions, not just the ones you want it to.

And of course the best place to hear jokes about God and stuff is from priests and ministers.

I wonder if that works for Muslim clerics too?

Mr. Doty, you sound like the religious zealots in the Muslim community who want to censor cartoons which include Mohammed. What is offensive to me is your self-righteous attitude which comes across in many of your posts. YOU are not the Almighty and therefore YOU should not make judgements. If you don’t like something, don’t read it. Don’t try to censor what the rest of us read because it offends you. Hitler was famous for that.

I have a t shirt that reads: who would jesus bomb?

He was a man of peace, as is his fellow man, the dali lama — it is ironic how many people down through the ages have been butchered in his name

Aircraft Eng - i think it’s “opium” of the masses, just misquoted. Anyway, Marx was sympathetic towards those whose economic situation gave them no happiness in THIS world, but a promise of some sort of afterlife reward. Today, it could easily be rewritten as “TV is the opiate of the masses….”

I’m a Christian, and I have a sense of humor and I am certain God does too. There’s a huge difference between a hateful or disparaging cartoon and one that is light hearted and in no way negative.

I think this one is clever and I’m sure Jesus would smile over it.

“How many of my readers would have the industry and application to memorize two thousand verses, even for a Dore Bible? And yet Mary had acquired two Bibles in this way – it was the patient work of two years – and a boy of German parentage had won four or five. He once recited three thousand verses without stopping; but the strain upon his mental faculties was too great, and he was little better than an idiot from that day forth –”

The Bible does say that God laughs. Of course, in each case, He’s laughing at the defiance of the people He’s about to destroy, but it does say He laughs.

Anyhow, I think “walking on Walter” is pretty funny.

I just knew that this cartoon would draw some hateful comments.

I would say that people who can’t stand a little light-hearted humor surrounding their religious icons are not very secure in their faith. Cristian, Muslim, Hindu or whatever.

There is a big difference between light-hearted humor and hateful mocking and if you can’t distinguish between the two you probably shouldn’t read the comics.

    IMHO
