Until some nosy neighbor calls the cops and reports the parents for letting a kid walk by himself (gasp). A couple in Florida had their kids taken away and were jailed for coming home 2 hours late they were stuck in traffic while their 12 year old played outside after school. It wasn’t even dark yet.

Heard about a grad student doing that with the manuscript for his dissertation1: put the manuscript in a box, stuck the box on top of his car while getting his keys out… then drove off with the box/manuscript still on top of his car. I don’t know if he’s been released from the asylum yet…
1 back in the stone age of hand-typed dissertations.
