Royce: Man! I've never seen a hotel like this, boss! Lacey: Splendid, isn't it? The Breakers is like a second home to me. Martin: Mrs. Davenport! Lacey: Why, Martin! How lovely to see you. Martin: Welcome back to Palm Beach, madam. Your suite is ready! Lacey: Thank you, Martin. I'll also be requiring a suite for Mr. Royce here. Martin: Um... madam wants a suite for her manservant? Lacey: For her legislative assistant, yes. Martin: Are you sure he wouldn't be more comfortable staying on the mainland?

The sad reality is that faces of color are still very unusual when you cross the bridge from âmainlandâ Florida to the Town of Palm Beach, Manalapan and the other wealthy towns. A few years ago, an African American law prof who had given a lecture at a Palm Beach conference tried to ride a bicycle along the island, and he was repeatedly pulled over by police asking what he was doing thereâŠ

@argy: the wife and I are vacationing in this area and commented on the lack of diversity the other day. Hispanics, yes, theyâre the gardeners to the 1%.

As an idealistic kid I had hoped that by 2015 the world wouldnât be like this anymore. Yet here we are, still well-stocked with bigots who are proud of it.

I am ashamed of my failings. Thatâs all that matters, right? Not improving or growing or repenting, but feeling shame? Or maybe I should just blame others for my faults problems. It works for others.

This strip is 30 years old. The acceleration of cultural change since that time (technology, media, 24/7 news cycle, etc.) suggests that we should know better. The fact that it seems not to have changed is a testament to how deep in our collective culture institutional racism is embedded.

Wow, do all the liberals here have limousines? I could sure use a lift. The closest thing I have to limousine is the F train. I mean, itâs a pretty good train; it will take you from Coney Island through the heart of Manhattan to end of Queens for $2.75.By the way, if you want to see how diverse my neighborhood is, just go for a jog with me on Ocean Parkway. You will see people of all colors, language groups and faiths. Thatâs what I love about my neighborhood. You will also see people walking all types of dogs. We donât discriminate against the K-9 set, either.

One person called you ââŠa proud bigotâ. In America all points of view (POV)/speech must be equally allowed provided they are in the context of non-violent civil debate and within the parameters of our secular laws. That said, your comment reminded me of how it would be in America if we all followed Benjamin Franklinâs famous comment to, âFart Proudlyâ. PS: Just another flatulent POVâŠand most people have one; free and open thoughts and ideas are what makes America strong whileâat the same timeâopening her to irreconcilable differences.

In my view the election of Pres. Obama brought two things to light: That many Americans are, indeed, âpost racialâ in their actions, and: That the deep-seated bigotry that many Americans had suppressed for years erupted like lava from a dormant volcano after his election. The bigots were further emboldened by the Republican leaders who vowed to thwart the President at every turn â never mind what kind of harm it may have done to the Country. Stereotyping and racial profiling are so deeply rooted in our culture that some arenât even aware that theyâre inappropriate behavior and try to excuse their way out of it. One example, The Washington RedskinsâŠ.

Thereâs one cardinal rule that all hippo critics live by: never do it to their faces. They donât take criticism well and they can bite you in half with very little effort.
