That’s wayyy too linear.

There is another sign, years later, that pops up from nowhere to remind you that it was never really finished to really represent what you wanted to express and may have had a few errors that weren’t noticeable at the time, but which have been growing in your mind ever since.

My brilliant cartoonist friend, Reed Waller, once commented that “an artist needs to be two people—one to do the art, the other to hit him on the head when he’s done…”

Damn. Yep.

As a writer I know that you never really feel that something is done. No matter how many rewrites you do you know somethings wrong and you know you can do better. It takes almost hurculian effort to stop and some point and say that a story (or piece of art) is done. Some writers keep revising a story even after it’s published because they aren’t satisfied with their work.

The artist, as a way of providing extra motivation, was waving at them 500 yards after the finish.

A famous poet once said that a poem is never completed but finally abandoned, or something like that.
