@pschearer.
Well, I’ll be danged, you actually admit to not knowing all about something. We depend on being patronised to get us through the day. Taking the afternoon off to get over this revelation.
This reminds me of Monty Python’s “Musical Mice” sketch. I don’t know which episode it’s in, but it’s also in the movie And Now For Something Completely Different.
Bangalee: Thank you for your lesson in patronization. I take my hat off to you.
Why would you think that knowing a lot about a lot of things (which I do) means that I think I know everything (which nobody does). Since I have no idea what you do or don’t know, I can’t be sure if you know a lot or a little. However, experience does tell me that even intelligent, educated, knowledgeable people (possibly even you) can be insecure about what they know (or don’t). I’m sorry if you feel patronized, but frankly that’s your problem.
Runs With Beer: Thanks for the link. I’m surprised by the stoves and typewriters (probably due to metal shortages) and that sugar rationing lasted until 1947. I’ve learned something today. Thanks again.

I knew a lot about the civilian rationing of WWII (gas, tires, meat, train travel,etc.), but I don’t think I’ve ever heard about the shoes before.
