I believe Jeff needs a rear view mirror, also. You know back in those days, they didn’t take driver’s tests. They just bought the license. My dad drove since before the 1920’s until the mid 1970’s and never took a driver’s test in his life. He was 79 years old when he died in 1978.
As I understand it, when cars were newer (years before this strip) if you coming onto a street you had to right bells as wait a while so people with horses could be prepared.

According to Wikipedia, turn signals were being used in cars as early as the late 1930s, so this is one of the old strips.
BTW, the car in the last panel looks like a cross between a Good Humor truck and Judge Dredd.
