Ive spent nearly $5,000.00 per year on cigarettes!
How many years have you smoked?
Thirty.
Thats over a hundred thousand dollars!
No, no, no,
when I was a kid, I got em for free from friends
It’s the “sin tax” that has raised the price so high. The same with alcohol.PA has the LCB, a state monopoly that keeps the prices up Up UP UPNJ sells liquor a lot cheaper…less taxes on it.NY wants their cigarette taxes…that’s why the guy who died being arrested for selling “loosies” for people who didn’t want to buy a pack. CA is just as bad.
Not arguing with you. I’m just stating that fed & state WANT the taxes, and don’t care about your health. Only you (and your friends & family) can make the proper decisions. The govt is just after the money. They don’t care about you.
If he spent $5,000 a year for 30 years he went from a very, very heavy smoker to a moderate one. $5,000 worth of cigarettes, 30 years ago, would have been an enormous amount.
With anti-smoking campaigns, states started losing a lot of cig tax money and had to scramble to make up for it. Of course, that money was supposed to be dedicated to anti-smoking public service messages but the states managed to divert the funds to general use.
Hubby smoked only pipes but when the cancer ads came out, he said they hit their chicken and he gave the pipes away to a friend who wouldn’t quit. Ironically, hubby died from metastatic melanoma years later.

I’ve had 3 friends die in the last two years from COPD. Not fun.
