Your both right. One way for children to use their imagination.

I love the cartoon. We make sure Story Hour happens for kids to stimulate their imaginations and their love of reading.

Then, when they’ve got active imaginations and a wealth of story experiences behind them, we feel glum that they don’t need us anymore. But they’re only doing what we were trying to enrich them for! That library lady should be proud, not defeated.

Just wait til they’re teenagers. Teens taught me that they don’t want parents for anything (though they’ll need them anyway from time to time). And that kind of independence is exactly what “raising” a kid is (instead of “keeping them down”), right?

So now I’m at the point when mine are going away for education of their own choice, registering to vote, etc. … and the “empty nest” can seem a whole lot like nothing. But it was the goal from the start.

I feel blessed to be aware of that! I get to be proud and joyful.
