I had a high school teacher who loved old comedy films, and he organized showings of all the classic comedians - Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd. He was the first person I ever met who also loathed the Three Stooges.
poohbear - Your experience reminds me of mine. I’ve had to tell my family to quit buying me anything green. I like hunter green, but detest avocado green, and of course, the green I was given was rarely the right one. A friend kept giving me stuffed cows, etc. and my husband Coca-Cola items, long after we quit buying them ourselves.
When your three boys watch the Three Stooges, and then constantly mimic them, you develop a life long hatred for Moe, Curly, and Larry. I should have been stronger and refused to let them watch. Whatever quiet time I got while the show was on really wasn’t worth the next hour of replay.
I think the Three Stooges would have been funnier back when their stuff was new, because the sound effects and the irreverent ridicule were much fresher then. Now, those things are old hat, so all I ever saw in the Three Stooges was mindless cruelty.
The Marx Brothers have a few topical jokes that I might have to explain to my kids if I even get them at all. But their type of humor is basically timeless. I’m sure Ruthie sees enough TV to have caught some of their stuff.
I love the comics that feature Miss Lucille because she’s so prone to what-the-hell wordplay herself that the misunderstandings work two ways at once. Ruthie and Lucille each misunderstand each other, and it doesn’t really matter that they do as long as we’re having fun!

no no, she married a zippo— because he carried a torch for her….

runar and Grog……you loath the Three stooges? Come on, you guys, I don’t believe it!

Runar, Horse-feathers or more succinctly, remind me to kill you later.
Seriously folks:
At fourteen I loved The Three Stooges. I’d drive my sister crazy by running home at noon and watching one or two episodes on TV.
Forty-two years later she still thought that a Three Stooges calendar was a perfect Christmas gift for me.
I finally had the guts to tell that I really didn’t like them anymore.

frank corona I love the Marx Brothers and Abbott & Costello…even Laurel & Hardy, but I can’t stand the Stooges.
As for runar, it was his highschool teacher who loathed the Stooges.

Could be Grog. Then it should have been:
“BTW high school teacher, remind me to kill you later.” Or “I oughta………..”

Chikuku, I am neither. I just don’t like their brand of humor. It’s all a matter of taste.

I implied that I loathed the Three Stooges when I said “also”. Even when I was real young (five or so), I only thought they were stupid, not funny.
