I think it respects children better if they’re told in advance roughly when they’ll be asked for their time.
Children who get that kind of consideration respond better when they’re expected to reciprocate, by giving advance notice of their own needs - and in their teens that can be a big deal.
Children who merely feel bossed arbitrarily don’t learn anything about mutual respect.

Unusal for brother and sister to play together, usualy wind up fighting. Anything to get out of helping mom.
