I taught my last cat to come when I whistled. Worked every time. Of course, I trained him with food, but don’t you do that with dogs too? Cats are trainable, you just need to be patient.
Buy a cheap plant spray mist-er, adjust to the equivalent of water pistol. (Cheaper than most water pistols) This gives you the ability to aim and target where you want to hit the cat. It is an effective form of feline discipline. Ours only has to see it and he knows that he must obey.
Furienna! Are you serious? It’s a plant spray NOT a water cannon. Most of the time the cat moves to avoid it. Strangely, he is pretty well-behaved when he needs a bath, so getting wet isn’t really the issue. However, scratched furniture, interrupted sleep (FEED ME NOW), journeys delayed because he won’t come in etc. could count as cruelty to humans.

Don’t you know Jon that you can’t make a cat do anything it doesn’t want to do?

Don’t worry. If Garfield thought there was food involved, he’d be there before Odie even heard the call!

CATS come if they don’t have a better offer!

iangoodson,
I tried that with cats one time. About the second or third time, when they saw it, they took off. Never did get them to obey.

Take Garfield’s advice, Jon. It’s the only way (if done with lasagna).
