Arlo: Why are so many television shows so violent and dark?
Janis: Because people watch them! It's what they want to see!
Arlo: That makes me feel better!
Bad car accident, house fire, drive by, robbery, corruption/ sex story, road report, bond issue for new library, useless health info, and a local charity….Every 11 o’clock news in the country….
I don’t even bother turning on the ‘early news,’ ‘eyewitness news,’ ‘local news.’ and then the 6:30 “National News” with their synchronized commercials beginning at the :45 minute of the hour. One can BET that that last 15 minutes will be pumped full of “ask your doctor” type ads ‘when we come back’ and there’s no escape from it all. Every channel has a helicopter (which must drive the local FAA RAPCON operators NUTS) and on and on the drivel drips. Orlando life sure is fun, it seems..
Ratings drive the content. There is a lot of “retro” reruns out there for the people who want to see the “Good old days” stuff. Netflix, Amazon, You Tube, etc. Used dvd’s are cheap. Build a video library for yourselves. Read a book. Get a hobby. Sheesh!
The news lets you know what has happened lately. It lets you know if your neighbors have problems, if war might come, where and how crimes are happening, if precautions against disease which might hurt you or your loved ones are needed or possible. It lets you know what kind of people are in or seking office. It lets you know how teams you favor or detest are doing. It warns of storms and other harmful weather. It reports on peace progress, scientific advances, lost children. If none of that interests you, consider the channel selecter and the OFF switch.

And then you watch the 10 pm news, and see some real dark and violent stuff. Yikes.

Most local news’ are a joke in the U.S., pandering to the sensational.

Sure would be nice to see some fun situation family shows or variety shows as in the past. Less sex and guns and more mischief and talent.

Because we know the dark stuff is out there and we want to see it resolved.

But for the Wall Street Journal Editorial Report and the weekday Bret Baier, I would watch nothing.
