I am only familiar with school Spanish. So one day I was amazed that a hispanic bank teller could not understand what a Spanish speaking customer was saying. That’s when I found out they’re were many dialects.

So “pitos” is the Spanish word for “sniglets” (Rich Hall, c. 1980). We need a word for inadvertently revealing one’s age with an internet comment!

Yeah, I used to go to Mexico a lot on business. Then I started going to Puerto Rico. I was checking into the hotel and didn’t quit catch the desk clerk’s question. I instinctively said ?Mande? even though the conversation was in English. She said, “oh, you must have learned your spanish in Mexico”. In Puerto Rico, they say Perdon. PS, in some Mexican dialects, Pito is a rude word.

So true.We were on a deployment to Honduras and the locals could only truly understand the LT from Puerto Rico – everyone else’s Spanish was confusing to them. Why Puerto Rico’s? Who knows.
