been there with all three of ours. After the worry about the fact that they could have been poking their eyes with the scissors (even the blunt tipped ones can do damage) faded the “interesting” styles brought laughter. And the children are the ones who have to “wear” it until it grows out. We were just glad it never happened right before family portraits were to be taken!
Happened at our house too. Luke sat there and swore he didn’t cut his own hair, even though gobs of hair were all over his clothes and the floor around him.
I live in fear. But not for the boy, for the girls, because they have longer hair and for it to grow out, they would have to deal with it for months, not weeks.
Youngest daughter did this right before Thanksgiving & school pics. Of course Thanksgiving was at the in-laws that year and we were made out to be bad parents and daughter was reduced to tears three times by grandfather’s not so good natured teasing
X-D Ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaa……. I love that wonderful strip of FBorFW as Sunday comic for today. Michael can grow his natural hair up as normal. sheesh! Elly, give him a break! LOLs! He can cut his hair very short. I could not recall the word like in Marine they all have to cut their hair very, very SHORT! Yikes! Help me! Anyone who knows that word???
Of course, we the humans can grow our own hair up again. But not for fake hair that will never grow up again! Sighhh!
For the kids, they better be careful with long sharp tip of scissors while they cut something. They should use “curved” or something on scissors that will be more safe for them to cut something. Oh yeah they tend to cut their hair with that safe scissors. Oh my dear! LOLs!
my daughter did this with her friend at age 7,, they wanted a “clip” of each others hair, a girls club “thing” . well it was more than a “clip” lol,, i threatened to buzz cut, them both if it happened again. They never did it again.
Maybe if Elly would be a more responsible mother and keep the sharp scissors put up where her children can’t find and get a hold of them, then maybe things like this wouldn’t happen!
I got tired of spending $15 for a 20 minute hair cut (it’s over priced! They are NOT worth $45/hr!) so I just shave mine down to about 1/32 of an inch now. (bare metal shaver on my head … hmmm feels sooooooo good!)
In the military, dependents get their own ID cards which have to be shown everywhere on base. My mother gave my older brother money to take me to the barbershop for a haircut before we were to get our updated cards. My brother had better use for the money, care to guess the results? I had a multiple year “bad hair day” and he got off a lot more lightly than I liked especially later on.

I suppose this unnecessary, uncalled for statement was a slap at me? Fine. Whatever. You’re entitled to your opinion … just like I’m entitled to mine. The only difference is, my statement was relevant to the comic (note Elly’s shock and dismay at what Michael had done to his own hair thanks to a pair of scissors she put in a place he could easily get to) … yours was just to insult me – which doesn’t make ME look bad … it makes YOU look bad.
By the way … I’m NOT sorry and I’m NOT going to apologize for saying that any responsible parent keeps anything sharp, like a pair of scissors, out of their childrens’ hands!!! Obviously, you’re either not a parent … or if you are, then you’re not a very good one if you would disagree with such a common-sense statement as that.
P.S.: I’d much rather be Gretchen’s mom than Elly’s because, at the age of 8, Gretchen has a whole lot more smarts and common sense than Elly does on her best days!!!!!
Michael has had his hair done by Hobbes, the great barber who made over Calvin. As Calvin commented on Hobbes’ finery: “What did you do my head? It looks like it was cut by a weedwacker!!”

This how I ended up with short spiky hair for years - cutting it myself when I only wanted a trim! Ah well…

My son has hair halfway to his butt. I’ve given up hoping he’ll ever do this, lol! (I showed him this comic and he thought it as funny; he’s 8).

My first-born child was too smart to cut own her hair. She cut her little sister’s hair off! Then she hid the shorn locks.

I did this when I was 5. I had bangs that I wanted to cut so I did and I cut them real high so it looked like I this huge honkin’ forehead!

A buzz cut wouldn’t be so bad these days. It’s in style. No so much in the ’80s though.

You can always shave his head and start fresh. I did that with my boys every summer when they were that age. :D
