Commercialism is only getting worse. I hate to think of it fifty years from now. And the true meaning of the season is getting more and more lost.

On the risk of being guilty for committing a sacrilege:
I never quite understood the praise for “A Charlie Brown Christmas” – practically all gags were taken from the comic strip. And the “solution” in the end: decorate the little tree until it has lost its individuality completely and is turned into a 100% artificial and commercial tree – hardly convincing.
For a biting satire from the 1960s look up Tom Lehrer´s “a christmas carol”, this song doesn´t even last for 2 minutes, but it is packed.

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

@AnguaYep, great song, I listen to it every year while wrapping presents or decorating (among many other songs, both traditional and not so much…….)

I think people will drop commercialism and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas when Santa’s sleigh is pulled by a tiny pigs.

Thanks for the tip with Stan Freberg’s “Green Chri$tma$”, I love the parodies of Dickens and “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.
As far as filmed versions of books are concered: I enjoy them, if they can add some dimensions only a movie can. Make the characters come alife, show me an interpretation I haven´t seen – and given Schulz´s genius: from a Peanuts movie I indeed expect new gags and not a stale rehash.

Maybe when “christians” stop killing reach other over minute differences in their interpretation of their holy books.
And stop killing people who believe in some other invisible friend or do not believe in invisible friends at all.
