So many people do that nowadays, even though corn tastes much better stored intact, that the stores gave up and put out clean garbage cans just for the husks.

They still have to clean up all day after those who leave their mess in the display bins, anyway…

They pick up unwanted ears, and sort through the garbage cans to get the ones entitled shoppers tossed with the husks.

Actually they trim off any bad parts and sell them as pre-shucked.

Anyhow… do stores in the Midwest still sell corn that cheap? And is it yellow or white?

Here in California 4 / $1 is a height of season price… very occasionally 5/$1.

Used to be about 69¢ an ear this time of year… but in the last few years we’ve been getting only white corn.

The off-season price is lower, but it’s tough right now and flavorless like field corn.

I still miss my sweet yellow Wisconsin and Illinois corn!

We can get tomatoes from Mexico and Canada…

We ship artichokes, oranges, grapes and avocados to the middle of the country…

how come no sweet corn comes here from that direction?

I really prefer the yellow corn. It seems to be sweeter and more tender. Unless you live near a Farmer’s Market, it’s difficult to find, that’s for sure.
