Be sure you do it in person, so you can tell the guys at the register that you rewound them…

and ask them to make sure they don’t charge you the extra dollar.

I bet the guys at the store have a lot of fun with them. How many times have they charged $1. to rewind the DVDs ?

These folks are probably the same ones protesting that States should re-open for business even though people will get sick and possible die if the State is re-opened too soon.

There was a store in my town that asked you NOT to rewind the tapes. They claimed that rewinding the tape on your machine set the tension on the tape to your machine somehow. Sounds stupid to me too.

When DVDs were still exotic, for a short period of time DVD Rewinders were actually sold to unsuspecting schmoes. If I found one now at a thrift store or yard sale in good condition, I would pick it up and keep it in my TV room as a conversation piece. (Of course, the conversation might go “you bought a DVD rewinder? you really are as dumb as people say”.)
