We now know from years of field observation that they will go home and proudly display their new junk around the house for the edification of their friends of similar ilk. After they’re sure everyone has admired it, it will all go into various drawers and plastic tubs until the batteries are all dead and the plastics are breaking down, at which time they will go into the next yard sale… and the next… and the next, where Burl will be unable to part with such heirlooms.

I just read this morning that the Dollar Store is going to start locking stuff up to prevent theft. At least Burl will put the junk back (I think).
