My three sons, when they had done something bad, they shouldn’t have done, they became suddenly so thick friends, I could never find out, who has done it. So I started to spank all three, one after the other, but when I had reached the last one my arms hurted and I couldn’t spank the last one any more!! I let it be and thought about other punishments!!
Someone threw an eraser and when the teacher looked, she looked right at me and sent me to the principles office. When I got there, I explained that someone threw an eraser and the teacher thought it was me. Was it he asked? No sir I replied. He looked at me and said " Well you are not going to sit around here doing nothing. I have some errands that need to be run. I think he believed me cause I ended up marrying his daughter.
Ed Asner was also the voice of ecovillain Hoggish Greedly in Captain Planet cartoons. His 31 episodes are the second most of any character that is not Captain Planet, Gaia, one of the five Planeteers, or Planeteer Ma-Ti’s pet monkey Suchi. Only the character Dr. Blight who was voiced originally by Meg Ryan and later by Mary Kay Bergman appeared more with 39 episodes. Ryan voiced the part for the first 13 episodes and Bergman voiced the part for the last 26 episodes.Mr. Asner is also the only person ever to win an Emmy for playing the same character in a comedy and a drama. He won in 1971, 1972, and 1975 for playing Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (for which he was nominated 6 times) and in 1978 and 1980 for playing the title role on Lou Grant (for which he was nominated 5 times).
I remember once in high school, I caught a gum eraser that was thrown from the back of the class. My mistake was turning and throwing it back just as Mr. Olson, our Mechanical Drawing instructor returned to the classroom!
Yup, you guessed right… down to the Principal I went!
Boy pulled my braid in class and I started to chase him. Teacher came back in the room and told him to sit down. Not a word to me. Think she figured rightly that whatever happened, he was the instigator.
Susie didn’t expect this flirting with Calvin. She may just have been bored. Calvin is quite used to ending up in the principal’s office, don’t know why he is freaking out. We have to wait until tomorrow, or if you have the books, you can read ahead. I’m such a fan, I know what tomorrow’s strip will be, but I can’t wait to see it.
Ah yes. The good old times. I remember being sent to the principal’s office for things I didn’t even do. Not that it mattered though. I always had the support of my parents and my innocent face to get me out. I wasn’t a troublemaker, but I did give bullies a hard time when they messed with me.

Nowadays, the school will cite some idiotic zero-tolerance policy and suspend them for a week.

It’s interesting to see the difference in their characters to later in the series. Susie is as much to blame as Calvin here.

And therein lies a problem in the education system; teachers and administrators who hate the job and/or the kids.

This story would be the only instance in which the Principal is referred to by name.

The thing that really dates this strip is the fear of being “spanked”…that wouldn’t even be a concern today.
