I grew up in W. PA where it is pop. Later moved to NY where it is soda. Always told the NYers that soda is what you mix with scotch and that if the bartender put grape Nehi on their Dewars they got just what they ordered.

I live in New England and we say Soda but I have cousins who say ātonicāā¦I used to thing they were drinking tonic water (eww)

I grew up calling it pop, but moved away for over 40 years. Now Iām back in āpopā country and it still catches me by surprise sometimes.

Soda was called a pop where I grew up. A milkshake would be called a frappe or a cabinet!
