    There were no U.S. patents…until there was a U.S. The first was issued in 1790, a couple of months after Franklin died. It’s safe to assume his ‘inventing’ days were over by then.

    Franklin discussed the matter of getting a patent in his autobiography, so I assume he could’ve gotten one under the British system. However, he wanted his inventions to be for the betterment of mankind, and never sought one.
