I’d have still thrown it.

That’s ridiculous. He didn’t put it together snowflake by snowflake, did he? (There probably aren’t any flakes left, they’ve all been packed together into a matrix of ice crystals and water.)
It’s cold to take apart a cold snowball.
Linus should have threw the snowball when Lucy walked away. Even though Lucy left, Linus was still taking apart the snowball.
Lucy is making Linus prove that there is no stone inside.
That wouldn’t work on Calvin.
