Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for January 10, 2016
Transcript:
Alice: Look! What's that? Mom: What? Mom: Oh, it's just a pile of snow. Alice: It's so big. Petey: They call it Old Mount Soot. It forms in the parking lot every year whether it snows or not. Alice: Mom, can I climb on in? Mom: No, it's dirty. Petey: Oh its ice, begrimed slopes dwell tiny, dirt trolls called the Sooti. They sneak down and carry off unwary bargain-hunting shoppers to their doom. Alice: Really? Petey: That's why you find abandoned shopping carts everywhere. Alice: Wow. Nature is so cool. Mom: Look! Here's a cart, and somebody's left all their cousins in it!

That is quite a pile of dirty snow; might take some time to melt completely away.

Once again, Richard posted a blog entry for just this strip. As it says, this is the second time this strip appears in the rerun, first time here, which ran originally here.

I remember as a young man some 40+ years ago in Syracuse, NY sitting in my truck, in January, at a shopping center that had mountain ranges of snow piled up when suddenly a guy my age appeared, dressed in Hare Krishna type robes. He came over and began to tell me about his beliefs. I wonder now if he came down from Mt Soot.

Will we get to see drawings of Sooti in the Buni strip?

There was a pile of snow and sleet in the parking lot of our school. One of the students, whose reputation as a driver is, shall we say, legendary, had parked his truck on the side of it. All the other parking spaces around it were empty.

Ali and Pete are a really great brother/sister team. And Mrs. O delivers the punch line!

Last year in Boston, with all the snow, it took until July for the very last bit to melt. Now that’s a lot of snow!

The Sooti are the apex predators of winter parking lots (replaced in milder weather by the strange overland seagulls, whose poop is rivaling the size of Old Mt. Soot)….
