Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Even when this strip was new, I doubt half the people reading it were old enough to remember when those kind of hats were very common and expected to be worn by business men. It was so long ago that now when you see one, itâs thought of as a silly costume or hipster affectation.
Instead of saying anything at all, Mom could have assumed Dad was being flirtatious, and slipped quickly and quietly out of her things,(thinking that âthe boysâ were outside playing, of course),happily cannon balled into the bath, WITH âDadâ âŠ
and the only text the last panel would THEN have contained âŠis a VERY LONG, HYPER-EXTENDED shriek kkkkkkk !!!
The last panel is GENIUS, though I would have loved to see whatâs next. Anyway, I see I am not the only one to notice that mom assumes thatâs her husband. It would meant that she see Hobbes the way Calvin does. I donât think the hat OR the bubbles would be enough to be THAT confusing.

I love the facial expressions in the final panel. Similar expressions but they convey differing emotions.

But . . . the Hobbes Mom sees is nowhere near the size of Dad. Itâs not easy, being a realist AND a comics fan.

The hat wasnât needed. Hobbes disguised as bubbles would have been convincing enough.xxx

Hmm. Wouldnât Hobbes float? Or if waterlogged, sink? Wouldnât the hat float? Isnât the hat much bigger than Hobbles? Not a pretty picture.

Heâs wearing a hat so that you wonât mistake him for Dagwood.
