Driving up Broadway in NYC, at 135th St. I saw a man standing on top of his cab to climb out of the “construction” hole he had landed in. Pulled over at the next corner to phone 911 (pay phone; long before cell phones). The person taking the call kept asking “135th?” as if she wasn’t sure she heard me right. I couldn’t understand why until I got back in my car and continued north… where I encountered exactly the same situation at 145th St. I guess someone had called that one in just before my call.
