I’m hoping their presidential aspirations are just the stuff of dreams.

Oh, you mean Raphael Eduardo Cruz, the Canadian.

To set the record straight, Ted Cruz is not a “native-born American” any more than I am. My mother was an American Citizen who gave birth to me in Canada. I had to swear allegiance and get a “Derivative American” paper, which I keep in my safe deposit box at the bank.

They need to address this before he’s deemed eligible to run for President. .He’s a citizen, but he’s not a “natural born” citizen because he simply was not born in the USA. What if a US citizen gave birth in Iran, father is an Iranian imam, the kid grows up without a word of English. If Ted is eligible, then this person is too. That’s why the rule is there, to prevent this sort of thing.

Ted was born in Canada, he’s not a natural-born citizen. How else can this term be defined?

As I have heard explained by two different Constitutional Law professors in two different on-air interviews, the term “natural born citizen” has never been defined by the Supreme Court, but as understood by the Founders in their time and under common law, it would require birth inside the country..The acceptance of children born to U.S. citizens abroad without having to go through a naturalization process was enacted by Congressional STATUTE..The Constitution gives the congress the right to specify the terms of naturalization by statute, but to actually amend the Constitutional requirement of being a “natural born” citizen would require a Constitutional amendment or Supreme Court interpretation..The definition of children born to American citizens abroad as citizens from birth, being enacted by statute rather than Amendment, is pursuant to the enumerated power given to Congress to define naturalization..Thus, if you accept an “originalist” “strict construction” of the Constitution, Ted Cruz is a NATURALIZED citizen from birth.

McCain was also born outside of the 50 states, in Panama, but he was born in the U.S. Canal Zone (U.S. territory at that time) to TWO U.S. citizens (unlike Rafael Eduwardo (“Ted”) Cruz whose father was not a U.S. citizen), on a U.S. military, while his parents were in active service to the United States and never held citizenship in another country (unlike Ted Cruz, who held dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship until about 14 months ago, when he started thinking about running for president and formally renounced his Canadian citizenship.

Also, Ted Cruz’s mother, while an American citizen, was also on Canadian voting rolls at the time Ted was born.
