Growing up in the sixties, the Space Age was all the go. I remember how every single kid’s game, no matter what, started with a countdown from 10.
We were going to be flying to work by now in our individual jetpack suits. And we would have so much leisure time because the machines would do it all. Yeah, do so much that each worker is now expected to be as productive as 10 reasonable humans. Leisure time, unemployment, whatever.
He’s wearing his World War I Flying Ace helmet today…Saturday it was just his head. I gather the astronauts fancied a resemblance between their headgear and Snoopy’s appearance…
But the first spacesuits had head gear under the helmets, maybe the colorist just got it off a little? hey at least they fixed the backgrounds! or maybe Snoopy’s just using what he had on hand already :P
Snoopy was the name of Apollo 10’s lunar lander. It undocked, made a descent and reentered orbit to dock back with the command module, Charlie Brown.
So Snoopy didn’t actually make it to the moon, but came close.
NASA deliberately did not put enough fuel on Apollo 10’s lander for a landing. They didn’t want a “premature” landing. The landing was scheduled for Apollo 11.
