Given the economy, this is a bad thing how?

Not such a bad thing for the chauffeur, but that’s how the oligarchs want us - quiet, grovelling and happy for whatever scraps they throw our way.

Next thing you know, they’ll start complaining that people who don’t pay taxes shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Actually, I like the idea that only taxpayers are able to vote for tax increases. “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

Rmom, the rich are fully capable of voting themselves public funds as well, through no-bid contracts, industrial subsidies, corporate welfare…

In a democracy, nobody’s immune from the temptation of putting their own interests ahead of the public good. But government “of the People, by the People, and for the People” means ALL the people. Not just the Republican base, “the haves and the have-mores”.
