Hello and good morning Big Sister, Tanya, MontanaLady, ♠Lonewolf♠, Grog, WoodEye, Yukoner, Sheik, Gweedo Murray, pouncingtiger, and all you wonderful people out there.
What I don’t understand is why B.C. hasn’t been publishing collections of Wiley’s Dictionary all along. You’d think it would be a smash hit, just like all the Felinity cartoons over at 9 Chickweed Lane.
There’s the NAACP, the Anti Defamation League, and the ASPCA.. What about the Siamese Twin Society? They get twice as many jokes. Two siamese twins walk in a bar—
I hate all ‘Wiley’s Dictionary’ jokes. (That is to say, sometimes - rarely - the jokes are kinda funny, but I think the whole concept is out of place in this strip. Oh well. At least Mason seems to have retired the “Show Me…” gags and the “My Hometown Was So Small…” gags.)
In the meantime, I’m just admiring the background in today’s offering. Nicely composed, both in terms of image placement (the angled shoreline is nicely done) and color… The reflection of the mountains in the water is quite lovely, particularly considering how simplified (“cartoony”, in a good way) the drawing style is.
Even if Mason phoned in the writing part of today’s strip, he clearly went the extra mile on the drawing. The Dictionary gags are usually done against a featureless backdrop.

Isn’t that a typewriter where the tapping sound comes through two speakers set about eight feet apart?

Wiley’s Dictionary has the magical property of making everyone who reads it a master of the slow burn.

Slow burn of what, Jo Jo? Of emotions over the bad puns, or of Wiley’s Dictionary itself? :)
If the latter, may I recommend the addition of some gasoline to the pile…

…despite my most sincere suggestion that they ought to collect these strips and sell them. :))

Johanan, I believe a “slow burn” is a type of comedic reaction done in response to a bad joke.
