One day when Queen Elizabeth had dedicated a new hospital wing in Edinburgh, she found that she had time to tour the rest of the building. In one ward she greeted one of the patients, who answered, “Scots wha’ hae wi’ Wallace bled.” Puzzled, she moved on to the next patient, greeted him, and was addressed with “My luve is like a red, red rose.” Even more puzzled, she went on to the third, who told her, “Wee sleekit tim’rous little beastie.” Having had enough of this, she asked her guide, “What is this, the insanity ward?” “Och, no, Your Majesty. It’s the Burns unit.”
