no matter how hard she gets rid of him, Eva still cannot escape Liō’s love for her

This is reminiscent of one of the greatest love stories in comic strip history, that of the abiding affection of the (ambiguously gendered) Krazy Kat for the (apparently married) Ignatz Mouse. There was a third figure in George Herriman’s eternal love triangle, namely Offisa Pup, cop by trade. “Krazy Kat” is, in the opinion of many (me included), the pinnacle of comic strip artistic achievement. The most often repeated interaction in the feature was: Mouse beans Kat with brick, Kat takes this as an act of love, Pup arrests Mouse. Endless variations on this made for years of comic bliss.

Usually Eva plays defense but this time around she’s decided to become the aggressor. Didn’t make a bit of difference, of course……..

The more she mistreats him, the more he loves her. After so many years, one would believe she would see that. And what does Eva Rose accomplished by trapping Lio? I think the answer is as clear as crystal.
