Brutus: Echoes do editorial corrections?
In reality, what Brutus said was grammatically correct. In his statement, “that” was just as acceptable as “who.” [Equivalent are … “The boy that lost his watch was careless” and “The boy who lost his watch was careless.”] Apparently, Chip Sansom did not know this, so he mistakenly referred to the change from “that” to “who” as an “editorial correction.”
Three people are waiting to enter heaven. The first person knocked on the gate. St. Peter said, who is it? It’s me. Come on in. The second person knocked on the gate. Who is it? It’s me. Come on in. The third person knocked on the gate. Who is it? It is I. Oh, drat. Another English Teacher.

The correction of an error is not “pedantry.” It is a favor, and it should be appreciated, not criticized.
