Many scientists believe that the order of importance on a totem pole is bottom to top. The figures on the bottom are at eye level, while the ones at the top are usually too high to be seen. So, “low man on the totem pole” is the favored position. That said, Bucky’s crack about being in the totem hole looking up at the totem pole is hilarious.

I use to wonder was that talk about the Pinto true till one day I was walking back to my parked car and a firefighter stopped me. The block was cordoned off. A parked Pinto had been rear ended and gas was flowing down the street along the curb side.

Even though the rear bumper wasn’t the strongest, the problem was the positioning of the gas tank behind the rear axle on a vehicle that didn’t have a standard frame but unibody.

A guy I used to work with was in a Pinto that got rear-ended. He and the driver made it out, but the friend in the backseat died. Just kids at the time.

Rob may not like Bucky’s candor, but he isn’t denying the validity of his observations, either.

For those who don’t feel like having to go to Wikipedia to learn what “The Stig” is, he’s an anonymous character on a BBC show called “Top Gear.” Nothing more than that.

When I was in grad school, a trade mag called “Broadcasting” ran a cartoon of two lawyers walking down the street, one carrying a briefcase with the Ford oval on it. The other, his hand poised to slap the Ford lawyer on the back, said, “Hey, great job getting Ford off on those Pinto suits.” Second panel, second lawyer recoils in horror after the Ford lawyer blew up when second slapped him on the back. You saw that coming, right?

Bucky oughta be a motivational speaker.

(I, too, enjoyed the “totem hole” remark.)
