I always get a laugh out of atheists, the kind who are absolutely sure there is no God, but have never been anywhere.
But idiots who can’t or worse won’t understand the humor in their certainty are just sad.
God might be somewhere, but it you haven’t searched everywhere, how are you so sure what can or cannot exist?
Atheism can simply be nonbelief in any God/gods, without being the belief in the nonexistence of God/gods.
Likewise, nihilism (leaving the “n” intentionally uncapitalized) can be the nonbelief in any system of Meaning, without being the belief in Meaninglessness.
In philosophical/psychological terms (as opposed to vernacular usage), one’s “beliefs” are not the same as either one’s “knowledge” or one’s “opinions.”
Clyde’s assumption that Rodrigo’s nihilism is in fact a belief system may be as baseless as certain religious adherents’ accusations that atheism is a religion. In many or (perhaps) most cases, they’re simply the absence of same.
One of the reasons philosophical arguments grow so heated (and so seldom lead to resolution) is simply the inability to agree on what the terminology means: “If I were to accept your premises, I could support your conclusions. However, I do not accept your premises.”
hmm! c.a brobst’s comment ended right after “have never been anywhere”.. when i read it and made my comment yesterday” which makes a considerable difference in meaning. now there is only the contradiction of ridiculing atheists for making a judgement without absolute knowledge of the universe as though it is perfectly rational to do so for a differing opinion without that knowledge. but i would not have bothered pointing that out if i had seen his comment as it shows now.

When we learn every corner of the house, we are told that God is outside. When we explore our neighborhood, we are told that God is in the churchhouse. When we find him not there, we are told he is beyond the horizon. When we map the world, we are told he is in the sky. When we fly above the clouds, we are told he is in space. As we peer into space, we are told that he is beyond space and time.
I’ve grown tired of looking for God. If God wants to stay in touch, he knows where to find ME.

It’s a good new strip, but it’s best when both Barney and Clyde are in the same cartoon. There are too many where extra characters wander in.
