The “Shirley” joke could work two ways here… 1) “Surely, your mom will turn him down.”“Don’t call me Shirley!” 2) “Surely, your mom, will turn him down.”“Don’t call my mom Shirley!”
Words escape me. Seems like he could not be a real uncle". We have at least one instance in my extended family of people with the same surnames marrying. I’ve never quite been able to establish what relationships they were to each other. But I assume that all was kosher; this was a smallish rural area, and surely somebody would have blown the whistle if it wasn’t.
@Maizing@rshive“There are places (even in the USA) where first cousins can legally marry.”.
Per Google“Twenty-five states prohibit marriages between first cousins. Six states allow first cousin marriage under certain circumstances, and North Carolina allows first cousin marriage but prohibits double-cousin marriage. States generally recognize marriages of first cousins married in a state where such marriages are legal.”.My cousin left her husband to run off with a woman. The family was traumatized because she was her cousin.(I was amused, since I figured there was no genetic double recessives problem likely to arise.).States that allow marriage of first cousins:California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington D. C., Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee..Some others allow it if there is genetic counseling, they are over 50 or one is proven to be infertile or sterile..States which allow them to have sexual relations as long as they are NOT married:Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia,Wyoming

Looks, personality, charm, brains and money aren’t everything. He also has……uh, uh, a chance for a reception.

Actually Mr. Dirtboot’s nose isn’t all that different from Agnes’s. And on the bright side, Agnes might get to be a flower girl.
