    Well, Tony is asking..

    “Have you tried it?”

No… but I’m willing to try most foods.

“Foods” being the operative word.I love some things that some of my friends don’t consider edible…including raw fish, seaweed, and very rare or raw beef…but I’m OK with their not trying them, because there are some things other people eat that I won’t try.

Everybody should have the right not to taste what they consider disgusting…for me, that includes raw oysters, natto, and fried crickets, all of which have been pressed on me and I refused.

However…. I don’t know what Elliot is refusing…if it’s a vegetable, I might insist on his taking a small taste, just because he’s a kid, and vegetables aren’t inherently disgusting.

If he doesn’t like it after that, he doesn’t need to eat it…which was NOT the rule when I was growing up.If Dad liked it, you ate it…if he didn’t, you never saw it.That’s why I was 18 before I tried asparagus, artichokes or avocados… and I didn’t know broccoli or brussels sprouts existed. (Love ’em all now.)

QOTD: Most likely by now I have tried it. Many things that I did not like as a child I tried again as an adult and found out they were good after all. The nice thing about living now is that food distribution is better so that we can try things from other cultures easier that when I was a child.

Bev… now, now…why don’t you try it and see?

Cat and Ape…you do have a point. Then again, I have tried it….. on numerous occasions…and probably will again.

I’m convinced one of them will have to turn out to be edible.Closest, believe it or not, was some fast-food fried okra, back when we used to have a Church’s chicken here…which was many years and many yucky gumbos ago.

And I have had some tasty gumbo…but it just contained the powder (filé) and not the whole vegetable.

When I was young I hated all veggies! As I got older I seemed to like them better! I guess Mom and Dad wore me down till I did. LOL! So now try Chocolate covered grasshoppers!!! LOL!

It’s true. Don’t knock it till you try it. When my grandma once told me I was going to try something I never tried before, I asked her what it was called. She said “Okra.” Well, that just sounded like such an odd thing that I couldn’t possibly like. Well, guess who was the one to eat it all? However, I do only like it fried. Not exactly healthy and I haven’t had it in many, many years.

I don’t have to try it to know I won’t like it.

The rule in our house is that you must at least try the new food and if you don’t like it you won’t have to eat seconds. I never give more than a tsp of the new food first so that it actually is just a taste. However, if you look at it and say “Yuck” before trying (or even after) then you will eat a normal sized helping!

@TonyHave I tried it? Maybe, maybe not. But if it’s food, yeah I’ll probably try it if you give me some. Human food, rabbit food, cat food, dog food, worm food (seriously, what kid hasn’t eaten some dirt growing up?), sand (can’t think of anything that eats sand other than little kids)…. I’ve tried plenty of different types of food.

Bev… I knew a toddler who sneaked a bag of Snausages from under the sink and devoured most of them before he was caught. He lived…. in fact, they didn’t even make him sick, as his hysterical mother feared.

They must have tasted sweet…they have a lot of sugar in them… too much to be good for dogs, IMHO.I usually read all ingredients in everything, but somehow, I hadn’t, until my little dog turned up her nose at them…she wouldn’t eat any of the sugary, sticky dog treats like those little lamb chops, either…or the Gainesburgers somebody gave us… also sugary.

I doubt it was because of the sugar itself, cos she was delighted to steal a cookie…. probably something else that holds them together.

Anyway… you would have lived….so you could have just gone ahead and enjoyed it…LOL.

Rose…. trade you any time!I do like cooked oysters, as long as I don’t think about how they looked raw…but no WAY will I taste a snail. Not even up for discussion.

What Peter should have said in the 2nd panel was “I don’t know, I’ve never tried pond scum.”, and none of the rest of the conversation would have happened. Then again, none of the rest of the strip would have happened, which wouldn’t have made for a very interesting strip.

All this talk of eating bugs and I’m reminded of the old grade school song about the old woman who swallowed a fly (you’re all welcome for the ear worm, had to share).

No I haven’t tried it. I refuse to eat any bug, anything you can find in the creek, organ meats, baby animals or raw meat. But hey if I don’t like it I’ll give it to Mikey……word is he will eat anything.

I’m not sure if any of you dog lovers have seen the cookies that are like an Oreo, but obviously not chocolate. When little man was young he ate a whole box of the dogs cookies without realizing they weren’t for him. I wondered why the dog kept looking at him funny. Every now and again I’ll catch the dog giving him a sideways glance with that look on his doggie face that says I haven’t forgotten you little punk.
