Kangaroo meat isn’t uncommon, although many Aussies have an emotional resistance to eating it. Kangaroos are one of their national symbols, after all. It’d be kind of like Americans eating Bald Eagle (although ‘roos are FAR from being endangered; one of the arguments in favor of harvesting boomers is to control the population).
One thing I love about this strip is that Myers goes the extra mile in the artwork. There’s no reason this waiter needs to be goofy-looking, but he is anyway. This guy knows how to draw funny, not just write funny.
I don’t remember that episode of All in the Family, but I remember 1973. You think this is a recession? The choice at most grocers was ground horse or hamburger that was half soy. Either taste like dogfood, & yes, I would know. Dog tastes better.
Fellow took his wife deer hunting for the first time. Got her a new rifle with laser scope, camo outfit, the works. Get to the woods and into her tree stand and tells her if and when he hears her shoot he’ll come help her field dress it. No sooner gets to his stand when he hears her fire a shot. Hurries back to find her aiming her rifle at a fellow who is saying “Yes ma’am! He’s your deer! But do you mind if I get my saddle off of him?”

Isn’t that a horse disguised as a waiter? Is this a cannibal joint disguised as a toney bistro? Flee, Broomie!

I suppose meat is meat. People eat possum, raccoon, skunk, and even dog, It all depends on your perception.

As a kid my favorite burger place, ‘The Big Beef Burger Ranch’, was closed down for selling horsemeat. Go figure, I quit eating meat after that.

anyone here remember the episode of All in the Family when, during the meat shortage, Gloria went to (my native) New Jersey to buy horse meat? :)

I look at the waiter and I hear Peter Lorre’s voice, even though the two look nothing alike. Weird.
