I read that the human brain is faster than a supercomputer! Isn't that amazing? Faster at what? At, like, you know... Computing stuff. What's 2,113,740 times 9,287,554? I don't know, but the human brain can do lots of stuff that's hard for supercomputers. Like, I can look at a picture, and tell you if it's pretty. Then how come it cost more to buy a day of the supercomputer time than to buy a year of a poor person's time? Huh? Maybe the computer is just better at negotiating. Elsewhere... Shouldn't have left your laptop connected, Sally. I have your browser history, Sally. I'll get you more power!

Solving math isn’t a survival skill, except for calculus, which is done without numbers using pure analog observations and dead reckoning. Pattern recognition is important, though, so you know what is good to eat and what is likely to eat you.

Come up with a computer that understands a poem or comes up with a joke that requires lateral thinking to understand, and you’ll have something.

It’s not the hardware. It’s the software. You could have a multi-threaded process that stores data in compressed formats and runs comparative analysis of new data to recognize learned images or sounds already. What you need is for there to be disparate memory segments for each motive process, and give each the ability to execute a full command override or influence behaviors according to the strength of recognition and the module orientation.In a human brain, it works that way. Memories can remain dormant until triggered by a recognition sequence in the memory segment flagging the recognized pattern as significant. You don’t have time to think. Your brain acts automatically in many cases, altering your physiological state to one appropriate to the situation, based on pattern recognition in one of the “emotion” modules.
