Hey B.G.,first off, I like your name and your avatar, very clever. Neither Mr. Varnes comment or the cartoon itself struck me as being racist, but I can see how it could be taken that way. When in doubt (indicated by your use of the word “borderline”) it is better to give the benefit of the doubt, and not draw attention to it. I have been reading this comic, and the comments of Mr. Varnes for a long time, and can assure you neither one has a racist agenda.
A personal story, I was trying to explain a different cartoon, about 6 months ago, clearly showing class distinction. One of the posters here griped at me because they thought I felt that way. That was and is not the case. If that person in his/her addled brain wants to think that way, fine.
