Ah, January 6, 1952. The very first Sunday Peanuts is finally here. Now looks like we’ll have a full week of Peanuts Begins from here on out. Unless go Comics decides to end things here and go back to the very first strip Maybe they’ll wait to do that until we reach December 31, 1959. Means Sally would be the last character to get introduced if they did that, we’d miss Frieda and Peppermint Patty and Marcie and Franklin, and Woodstock and Rerun sure. But if they just want to stick to the ’50s for Peanuts Begins that would be pretty nice.

Shermy: “And anyway, look at the bright side… at least you’re providing our laughs for the day! (Hee-hee!)”Patty: “Yeah, ha-ha-ha!… Heck, you’re always good for a few laughs! Even if we don’t actually like you, per se! (Hee-hee!)”Shermy joining in: “Ha-ha, hee-hee! Oh, Charlie Brown, you’re hilarious!!"Charlie Brown: “Anytime!!”

Poor Charlie Brown. He always gets the worst part of everything. And first Sunday strip? It was about time!

One of my friends is a gym teacher. Since competitive ballgames are out (someone might get hit with a ball—gee, I remember when that was the point!) and running laps is seen as “too hard on the ones who are out of shape”, he takes them through a few warmup stretches and then sets up games. Their favourite? Tag! Freeze tag, animal tag—any tag. Kids who would otherwise spend the day staring into a gadget, love to chase each other!

The main Peanuts strip has already covered the introduction of Peppermint Patty and Franklin, and also the proto-Marcie. I guess the Peanuts Begins strips are meant to cover an earlier period than where the main Peanuts strip returned to after Schulz died.

I think it’d be nice if Peanuts Begins carried right on through, eventually merging with/replacing the regular reruns to make a full archive of the entire strip.

This was the start of Charlie Brown baring his soul.

orinoco womble: True. I wish it was true of the recent comic books—a profoundly misguided enterprise.

No matter how GoComics decides to handle Peanuts Begins with Peanuts sown the road, lets just enjoy them.
