Reminds me of the quick start guide I once saw, which started out with the advice to “open the box carefully”. Which seems to make sense, except for the fact that you had to open the box to get at the quick start guide.
I once hear a (probably apocryphal) story about a first-generation jet fighter: the instructions for operating the ejector seat were printed on the inside of the canopy… that was blown off the plane in the first step of operating the ejector seat.
I once worked with a typesetting machine. The instructions on how to load the roll of photographic paper were on the inside of a door. The first step? Open the door.
