I remember growing up I was around 10. Very hot in Chicago. Someone had removed the cover from a fire hydrant. I went down to cool off. Put my butt against it and it sprayed like that only MUCH higher up and over me to the other side of the street. This is around 1959. Cop car pulled up and they asked me if I had taken the cover off. Said no, I found it that way. They laughed and told me to have a good time. Nowadays who knows? They might shoot me.

Some kid was always jamming a twig in the bubbler of the park to get just that effect. They finally removed it entirely.
