Never had a sprinkler like that. We had two different kinds. One where you stand there with your thumb over the end of the hose causing the water to spray out and one where you stood there pulling the trigger, causing the water to spray out. In both cases YOU (too often me getting sunburn so things could get watered) had to stand there and wave the spray left and right, up and down. Would have preferred a real sprinkler.
My niece got a sprinkler for her kids to play in— an oscillating type. Water on, kids running through the water and jumping over the sprinkler— two passes. Then one tripped on it, stomped it flat. So much for the sprinkler.
